Conditions

Anxiety

Anxiety is caused from worrying or overthinking a problem. Anxiety is caused from a negative thought which is from negative thinking. Anxiety can come in many forms such as generalised anxiety, social anxiety and health anxiety.

Addiction

Addiction is a common problem, addiction is defined of not having control or losing control of something to the point of where it can be harmful to you. Addiction is commonly found in drinking alcohol, drug addiction and gambling. However, it can come in other forms as becoming addicted to work, shopping and even to the internet which there appears to be a sharp rise in social media and access to devices.

Confidence building

Confidence building can come from setting out small achievable goals that are compelling and meaningful. It gives you a certainty and clarity knowing that you are moving in the right direction.

Depression/low mood

Depression is a low mood that can last a long time or keep returning, affecting your everyday life.

In its mildest form, depression can mean just being in low spirits. It doesn’t stop you leading your normal life but makes everything harder to do and seem less worthwhile. At its most severe, depression can be life-threatening because it can make you feel suicidal.

Eating disorders

This is a mental health condition where the use of control to cope with feelings and other situations. Most disorders cover anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorders (BED). Association with foods are unhealthy whether it be too much or too little food or worrying about weight or body shape.

Fertility issues

Often people decide that they’re going to start a family and very quickly a baby is on the way. Unfortunately, for some people it’s not that straightforward, some need a little more help. The reality is that for some couples, stress and anxiety get in the way of creating a family. This is because when our mind considers that we are in danger (under stress) then the fight/flight/freeze response is stimulated. During periods of stress, our body shuts down what it considers to be non-essential functions so that it can focus on the danger. The mind does this to protect us and therefore learning to relax can be key to becoming pregnant

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a long-term condition in which pain and fatigue are often felt in the body.  Whilst there isn’t a ‘cure’ for it, there is strong research showing that psychotherapy for fibromyalgia can be a useful way of coping and improving quality of life.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

IBS is a condition of the digestive system. IBS symptoms can cause extreme discomfort with stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and/or constipation.

The symptoms of IBS tend to come and go and are often triggered during periods of stress or after eating certain foods. Symptoms tend to vary between individuals and can affect some people more than others. However, most people suffer from stomach cramps before experiencing either diarrhoea, constipation, or bouts of both. The cause of IBS in unclear but we do know that it can be aggravated by stress.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) affects people differently, but usually causes a particular pattern of thoughts and behaviours.

OCD has 3 main elements:

  • obsessions – where an unwanted, intrusive and often distressing thought, image or urge repeatedly enters your mind
  • emotions – the obsession causes a feeling of intense anxiety or distress
  • compulsions – repetitive behaviours or mental acts that a person with OCD feels driven to perform as a result of the anxiety and distress caused by the obsession

The compulsive behaviour temporarily relieves the anxiety, but the obsession and anxiety soon return, causing the cycle to begin again.

It’s possible to just have obsessive thoughts or just have compulsions, but most people with OCD experience both

Panic Attacks

Panic disorder is an anxiety disorder where you regularly have sudden attacks of panic or fear.

Everyone experiences feelings of anxiety and panic at certain times. It’s a natural response to stressful or dangerous situations.

But someone with panic disorder has feelings of anxiety, stress and panic regularly and at any time, often for no apparent reason.

Improving sports performance

In recent times, many famous sportsmen and women have turned to hypnotherapy to help them find and stay in the zone when it really matters. This is because it has been proven that the subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between imagination and reality. This means that even when ill health stops us from physically practicing our skills, our mind can visualise us practicing.

Sports stars are often using sports coaches to enhance their performance to have that extra edge winning championships, accolades and much more. For example, boxers would visualise the winning knockout and the feeling of that winning moment.

Stress

Stress can cause many different symptoms. It might affect how you feel physically, mentally and also how you behave.

It’s not always easy to recognise when stress is the reason you’re feeling or acting differently.

Weight management

When it comes to achieving and maintaining our ideal weight, everyone’s needs are different. Some people may wish to lose a few pounds or a few stone or they might even want to gain weight instead! If you suffer from an eating disorder such as Anorexia, Bulimia or binging, then our needs are often more complex. One thing is for sure, fad diets will only work on a short-term basis and can sometimes be counterproductive. If you want to reach your ideal weight and stay there, then we need to change the way we think about food. Studies suggest that if you’re serious about weight loss then hypnosis can help you to lose weight and keep it off.
